At Rio 2016 Olympics Games, the distances between venues and control rooms were vast. There were approximately 2,400 kilometers of fiber cabling laid around the arenas and various venues to support multiple 360-degree cameras. Numerous signals had to be transmitted up to 65 kilometers in distance over a limited number of fiber optic cables.
Media-Go's partner, MuxLab, is proud to have been a part of facilitating the broadcasting of the Rio 2016 with the use of MuxLab’s 6G-SDI Extenders Over Fiber Optic. Comparing with other brands, the 6G-SDI Extenders's multiplexing capability enabled the operator to group four feeds and send them along one fiber cable to streamline the installation. The Extenders were highly flexible and were able to accommodate demanding changes with tight lead time.
MuxLab offers several models of 6G-SDI Extenders, some support UTP and others Fiber, while some support a return channel for AV monitoring, tally light, talk-back and camera control unit (CCU). These devices support all SDI configurations (using 1, 2 or 4 BNCs) up to UHD-4K.
